Design and collectible details
The obverse shows the personification of Malta at right and the Maltese coat of arms at upper left, with Central Bank of Malta lettering and Maltese legal tender text. It is a sober but elegant design from Malta’s late paper-money period.
The reverse is one of the strongest visual features of the note: the 7th June 1919 Monument appears with a scene of wounded people being carried into the National Assembly, based on a painting by Gianni Vella. This gives the banknote a clear historical identity and makes it more interesting than a purely numeral-based design.
Security and series notes
This Pick 47c variety belongs to the ND (1999-2007) Michael C. Bonello signature period and is listed by Numista with series C/45-C/71. The note includes a female-head watermark and a segmented security thread, typical of this late Maltese liri issue.
