Design and collectible details
The obverse shows the bust of Artemis at left, with central text, signature area and watermark pane. The design links the modern Cyprus pound to classical mythology and the island’s long cultural history.
The reverse is especially appealing for animal-banknote collectors. It includes the Cyprus warbler, Cyprus mouflon, green turtle and Paphos Blue butterfly, together with local plants such as cyclamens and tulips. This makes the note a strong wildlife and Mediterranean nature collectible.
Security and series notes
This 1997-Feb-01 issue, Pick 59, with Afxentis Afxentiou signature, 8,000,000 printed and serial range A 000001 to H 1000000. The watermark is the bust of Aphrodite, another classical element that reinforces the Cypriot identity of the design.
Collector note: the Cyprus pound was replaced by the euro in 2008. This 10 Pounds note is sold as a collectible world banknote, not as current legal tender.
