Oh yes, dear reader. And not only is it real — they’re printing commemorative banknotes so bold, so gloriously niche, they’d make even Monaco’s stamp designer spill his espresso.
On April 24th, 2025, the Transnistrian Republican Bank (yes, that’s a thing) issued a new 1 ruble banknote to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War.
And it’s an absolute banger.
🧨 So what’s on this fiery slice of post-Soviet pride?
Visually, it’s based on the 1 ruble design from 2007 (updated in 2012), but the commemorative edition has some unique swagger:
- Printed in blazing red-orange, like a Soviet sunset soaked in paprika.
- Features the sculpture “The Motherland Calls”, arguably one of the most epic statues on Earth.
- Includes a bold “80” and the word “VICTORY!”, flanked by the Saint George Ribbon, because subtlety was never really on the table.
It’s patriotic, it’s intense, and it looks like it was designed by a general with a PhD in propaganda aesthetics.
📦 Limited Print, Maximum Curiosity
Only 2,500 units were printed.
Yes — two thousand five hundred.
That’s less than the seating capacity of a regional IKEA car park on a Tuesday.
Of these, 2,490 were sealed inside commemorative booklets, the kind that scream “don’t you dare spend me, I’m a collectible!”
Yet, and here’s the twist — it’s technically legal tender in Transnistria.
You could walk into a shop in Tiraspol and pay for a bottle of Kvass with it (though we strongly recommend you don’t).
